SAN JOSE — A state Senate bill that promises to fix California’s battered roads and bridges with $6 billion a year from gas tax and car> registration fee increases is set to go before the Governance and Finance Committee on Wednesday.

State and local officials held a news conference in San Jose Mon morning to urge legislators and Governor Jerry Brown, who supports the bill, to pass a transportation package before spring recess begins on Apr 6.

“It’s fiscally irresponsible to wait till roads fail,” Beall said.
