Orinda: Residents, city hammer out deal for sinkhole fix

Published Wednesday March 15

ORINDA — After weeks of legal wrangling, a couple has given the city the green light to fix a gaping sinkhole near their home.

Homeowners Darryl and Jana Rains agreed March thirteen to allow the city “right of entry” to their Camino Lenada house in order to repair the crater that formed in Jan on nearby Miner Road following an intense winter storm.

The permission lets the city of Orinda begin work on a 16-feet wide by 7-feet high box culvert that will replace the failed storm drain that led to the road’s collapse.

According to a city timeline, staffers will need to obtain brand new environmental permitting for the project, and finalize a plan for temporary dam and creek diversion.
